“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10
Since graduating from Trinity University with a degree in Accounting in 2007, Nick’s focus has been helping others achieve their goals in both sports and fitness.
After playing 4 years of college baseball at Trinity University and a 3 year professional baseball career in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, Nick went back to his alma mater as the hitting/strength and conditioning coach.  It was in these few years back at Trinity that he found his passion as a coach.  Since then Nick has been pursuing the art of helping others define and reach their goals.
He has worked with people from all walks of life: professional athletes looking to reach elite levels of athleticism, kids just getting starting on their fitness journey, grandparents trying to improve their quality of life, and amputees returning from service in the military and of course the everyday moms and dads who are looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Nick believes that anyone who walks into The Tribe Strength and Conditioning can benefit from what he and the coaching staff have to offer with regards to health and fitness.

Ed Conway

Co-Owner / Head Coach

  • Certifications
  • CrossFit Level 1
  • USAW Sport Coach Level 1

In 2008, after a long break from Football, Ed reclaimed his passion for fitness, sport and nutrition.  After gaining an unhealthy amount of weight, it was time for a change.  Through the efforts of his personal trainer, encouragement and support from his loving wife, and plain determination and hard work, the results spoke for themselves.  Ed experienced higher self esteem, a healthier and more fit physique, and a better quality of life.  It wasn’t long before Ed was competing in local and regional level competitions testing his strength and conditioning.  Though the physical and emotional transformation was nice, he realized that his true passion for fitness wasn’t for his own personal accolades and goals, but helping others reach theirs.  After coaching for over 4 years, Ed has come full circle to open and co-own The Tribe Strength & Conditioning.  Whether an aspiring athlete, weightlifter, or someone who simply wants to better their quality of life, Ed is excited to share his education in fitness, olympic weightlifting and nutrition in an effort to make a positive impact on your life.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.Psalm 23:4

After 15 years, Matthew Miranda concluded his baseball career at age 19 following his freshman year at Cisco Junior College. Eager to put his passion in to something new, he found health, fitness and coaching. Miranda began personal training at Gold’s Gym in 2012. In the midst of his time at Gold’s, Miranda was introduced to the training styles of Crossfit. It was then he decided that was the training methodology he wanted to pursue.  By 2016 he had moved his way up to Assistant coach of the functional training program, Goldsfit.
In April of 2016, Miranda was sent to The Tribe by his co-workers at Lulu Lemon.
He was intrigued by the programming, atmosphere, but mostly importantly, the community within The Tribe. He knew very quickly that God was calling him to a place like this. Miranda Joined the Tribe team in November of 2016. Along with coaching, he currently works for Lulu Lemon at the Quarry Market. There, he has found a great fulfillment in helping others reach their fitness goals.
Continuing to compete, Miranda finished in the top 200 rx’d males division of the Crossfit Open the past two years.

Jennifer Smith

Tribe Kids Coach

Jennifer leads our Tribe Kids program and we can’t imagine a better coach, creator, and mentor for our youngest members! Check out the Tribe Kids program here.

Although not much for sports as a child, Jennifer has been active as an adult through running, yoga, weight training, and pilates. Four years ago, she had a friend talk her into giving high intensity interval training a try, and she was instantly hooked.  In 2014 she became a coach, leading a Kids program. She is passionate about good form and movement, and enjoys coaching kids and teens to move in a way that will prevent injury and provide life-long benefits.  She relishes seeing them excel beyond their own expectations and helping them set new goals. Jennifer loves spending time with her husband and their 3 kids, one of whom can beat her in almost any WOD.

Natalie Slaton

Yoga Instructor

  • Certifications
  • Holy Yoga

Natalie leads our weekly Yoga class on Sundays at 3PM. Yoga is free to all Tribe members and is $8 for drop-ins. Yoga is an opportunity to slow down, breath, and listen to your body and give your body opportunities to grow in new ways.

Natalie grew up in Dallas, TX and married her childhood sweetheart. She now has three kids, a dog, and a mini-van (which she swore she would never own!). While living in Austin, Natalie began practicing yoga after a back injury. Seven years later, she discovered a non-profit called Holy Yoga, which offers a 225 hour yoga teacher certification. Holy Yoga has trained Natalie to teach traditional yoga in the context of her Christian faith. It’s her passion to share the practice of yoga with friends and fellow athletes here in San Antonio.
